Rudolfs Balcers of the Belleville Senators leads his team to victory with 2 goals in a 3-1 win over the Toronto Marlies.
On Tuesday February 4, the Belleville Senators beat the Toronto Marlies to help them get another boost to try to get to the number 1 spot in the league. The Toronto Marlies came up with the first goal which was 5:28 into the first period when Egor Korshkov skated down the right wing and snuck it pass Joey Daccord getting his 11th goal of the season. Not much later Rodulfs Balcers scored on a one-timer to get his 12th goal of the season and even up the score to 1-1. Late in the first period, the Marlies got a penalty shot after Jordan Murray took down Nic Baptiste on a breakaway. Luckily for the Sens Joey Daccord stopped the penalty shot keeping the score at 1-1.
4:09 into the 2nd period, Logan Brown cross-checked Egor Korshkov from behind which gave him a game misconduct and a 5 minute major penalty. Jordan Murray served the penalty. During the penalty, Jordan Szwarz broke free on a breakaway and roofed the puck over Joseph Woll as he collected his 12th goal of the season. The Marlies could not cash in on their biggest chance of the night. With 23 seconds left, Rudolfs Balcers scored his 2nd of the game to give the Sens a 3-1 lead as they exited the 2nd period.
During the 3rd period, Jordan Szwarz made a play which kept the Sens in the game by swatting the puck off the goal line before it could go in the net. The Sens almost got their 4th goal of the game when Vitaly Abramov got a breakaway but couldn’t cash in.
By the end of the game, Joey Daccord had 25 saves while Joseph Woll had turned away 23. Other players who recorded points were Jordan Schmaltz and Tyler Gaudel of the Marlies and from the Senators Vitaly Abramov, Josh Norris, Logan Brown, Maxime Lajoie and Josh Dougherty who also accomplished a milestone by getting his 50th career point.
